Abstract. The article describes the cases of mycotic infection, which were investigated in the municipal dispensary, dermato-venerological medical-sanitary institution, dispensary section, bacteriological-clinical laboratory of the Chishinău sity of Republic of Moldova. Information was selected to seed at dermatophytes (filamentous fungi) diagnosed in 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023. The object of study served sick people with various pathologies from which the biosubstrate was taken. In total, 750 cases have been studied over four years.

Keywords: mycotic infection, fungus, Epidermophyton floccosum.

The overall increase in diagnosed cases emphasizes the importance of public health initiatives, education, and awareness campaigns about fungal infections. Understanding the factors contributing to the rise can aid in developing targeted interventions for prevention and management.

The increase in the incidence of mycoses is associated with many factors, primarily with the active use of antibacterial, cytostatic, corticosteroid and other drugs with immunosuppressive properties in medical practice [1].

The infections caused by Epidermophyton floccosum not only deepens our understanding of the biology of this fungus, but also has practical implications for improving diagnostic methods and effective control of dermatophytoses in clinical practice. Diagnostic methods include direct microscopy, cultural methods, biochemical studies on Chromogenic agar, molecular methods and serological tests. Chromogenic agar test tubes show agar with chemicals. When the fungi grow, the substances are decomposed and the color of the agar changes. The use of these methods makes it possible to accurately detect and identify Epidermophyton floccosum, which is the basis for prescribing adequate treatment.

Results

From the working register of microbiological investigations no. 253e approved by the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Moldova. The following were used as informative support for the study of microbiological features:

  • the register of isolated stems (form no. 380/e).
  • sheet registration sheet.

Between 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023 in total, 750 analyzes were diagnosed respectively:

2020 - 101 cases (men – 43, women – 58)

2021 - 280 cases (men – 108, women – 172)

2022 - 106 cases (men – 42, women – 64)

2023 - 263 cases (men – 143, women – 120) (fig. 1).

New technologies in genomics and molecular biology provide opportunities to better understand the genetic characteristics of Epidermophyton floccosum and develop more accurate diagnostic and treatment methods.

Conclusions

1. The graph described has an alternating characteristic between increasing and decreasing the number of cases. The total cases more than doubled, going from 101 cases in 2020 to 263 cases in 2023. This suggests a potential upward trend in the incidence of Epidermophyton floccosum infections over these years.

2. Gender Disparities Persist: The gender distribution reveals consistent patterns across the years. While there are fluctuations in the numbers, women consistently have a higher number of diagnosed cases compared to men each year. This ongoing trend might warrant further investigation into the gender-specific risk factors or behaviors contributing to this disparity.

3. Fluctuations in male incidence: The number of cases among males also shows some variability, with an increase in 2021 and a subsequent decrease in 2022. The higher incidence among males in 2023 could indicate a changing demographic dynamic in the population affected from the Republic of Moldova.

Epidermophyton floccosum.
